Robert Buzz Emigh Obituary
David Andrew Emigh of Los Alamos, New Mexico, was born on October 28, 1953. Relentlessly impressed by the realization that we are all made of stardust, he escaped his earthly bonds on August 4, 2020, after a brief illness.
David attained the rank of Eagle Scout while at Explorer Post 20 and graduated from Los Alamos High School, where he was an athlete and played double bass in the orchestra. After graduating from Arizona State University and the University of Illinois, he taught science and history at Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson, CT.

He was committed to his students and the idea that everyone can understand basic science concepts when presented to suit each student’s learning style and experiences.
David loved art.
He played double bass and appeared in school musicals. Growing up near the Santa Fe Opera sparked his lifelong passion for opera. He participated in several musicals and theater performances and welcomed a local film crew who used his house as a set. Participating in a special performance of Handel’s “Messiah” alongside my wife and daughters with the Concert Choir of Northeastern Connecticut and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra truly became a cherished family memory.
David loved his family. Phyllis, to whom he was married for 38 years, won her father’s lottery. He was an active parent to Gwyneth and Megan, enjoying changing diapers, painting little toenails, and attending the girls’ performances and events. The special bond with his daughters continued into adulthood, as he gave Gwyneth tips on baking bread and joined Megan in games and costumes.
David loved adventure. He was an Explorer Scout, rafting across the West and becoming an Eagle Scout. Three years after graduating high school, he and Phyllis enjoyed island life in the US Virgin Islands.
He planned many road trips for his family and visited his 50th state on a cruise to Alaska in 2013. In retirement, he moved back to Los Alamos, where he could regularly enjoy and photograph the unusual beauty of northern NM, his favorite place on earth.
David loved to bake. After his daughters successfully entered the market, he devoted himself to his new hobby of baking bread, which he devoted himself to until the day he bought half a kilo of yeast. He bought a mobile wood stove; If you could get a truck to transport him, he would make pizzas for your event. He called this business the “Walking Man Bakery”, referring to the fact that he had walked every public street in Windham County, Connecticut while working on his health.
To remember David, his family suggests going outside to enjoy the night sky, taking a walk, finding a new road to drive on, playing some computer games, going to the opera (“but not new things like that”), baking, and sharing some bread, teaching someone a new skill, or sharing crazy memes on social media.
And please, just like David did when he gave his family the best possible gift, fill out your medical order and share it with those needing it someday.

David will be deeply missed by his wife, Phyllis, and his daughters, Gwyneth (William Martinez) and Megan (Sean Wilner). He will also be missed by his aunts, Ann Bish and Analine Hicks, his brother, Theodore (Virginia), and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
